General Course Overview:
A detailed overview of the 4-Component models for pipeline friction loss and slurry pump solids effect, including the complete set of equations and a summary of the test programs on which they were validated.  Developed in recent years by the GIW Hydraulic Lab, these models offer the advantage of being applicable to any settling slurry, from coarse to fine particle size with narrow to broad size distribution.

Draft Agenda:

  • Introduction and Settling Slurry Flow Regimes
  • The 4-component methodology
  • Pipeline friction Loss Model
  • Pump Solids Effect Model
  • Description of Test Program
  • Overview of Results
  • Comparison of Test Results to Models

Who Should Attend?
This course is recommended for the engineers responsible for sizing pipelines, selecting pumps, or estimating power requirements for settling slurry transport.

PDH's
This course qualifies for 4 Professional Development Hours (PDH's). Certificates will be issued via email upon request.

About the Instructor:

The 4-Component Models for Pipeline Friction and Pump Solids Effect will be instructed by Robert Visintainer, P.E. Robert has worked in the design, testing, sales and manufacture of centrifugal pumps since 1981, and is the 2021 recipient of the ASME Worthington Medal for eminent achievement in the pumping industry.

As V.P. of Engineering and R&D for GIW Industries, he is responsible for product design and management for the KSB Global Mining organization, and oversees slurry pump materials development, hydraulic R&D, technical training, and GIW’s unique Slurry Hydraulic Test Lab. Robert has contributed to many developments and innovations in slurry pump design and wear prediction technology, takes an active role in GIW’s industry-leading Technical Training Program, and contributes to scientific conferences, journal papers, and short courses on a regular basis.  An honors graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology, he holds degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Physics.

Registration:
This course is being offered by WEDA as part of our mission to share knowledge and information about dredging. Because WEDA is a non-profit organization, with its goal not to make money but to share information, WEDA is offering this course at a low cost of $150.

The registration for this course is located on the Dredging Summit & Expo registration page. The course can be added to your registration or purchased separately. Dredging Summit & Expo registration is not mandatory to participate in the course.

All participants: $150
